Court story showed poor judgment
I am writing in regards to your recent article in the Gazette, “Trial Underway In Sundre Assault Case.” I view this as a very disrespectful and distasteful article since the case is only underway and not even half done. You have chosen to use poor judgment in the information which you provided and I feel sorry for all the individuals involved, who are permanently damaged by your choice of words. You forgot to mention the reasons of the case and that only these incidents took place with one side of a story. It looks to me that this is a journalistic error of conviction by press and I would assume that you should maybe apologize to these people or put forth some facts pertaining to the case and not just statements you choose. I understand it’s freedom of the press but make facts be known. I know both parties and I believe this article is insulting to everyone. You may choose to write that there is a trial underway for the named incidents that are suspected to have occurred and then write the whole story once it’s done. There are people on both sides of this case that have to live here and be seen as you have portrayed them before the facts were all together. Half-truths tend not to be very appealing and the community has assumptions now as to blame without the whole story. I would hope you make better choices in your future publishings and realize this is a small community here and not some oversized city where nobody knows anyone. Both parties and their families have to now deal with your poor judgment on this article and I feel for them.

I agree Suzie but if you read the letters and such they state the trial is not even half done and with that it does not state that the witness story was only "a story" and it is still up to the judge to find all the "faults" with the case and have the final say over if the charges will be laid or not. I think if convicted yes they deserve what happens but until that happens it should not be stated in such a way in a public paper. I think also if you were to be at this trial you would understand more to be able to lay blame if you so felt up to it, but with no facts about not only Jenna but the witnesses true statements it makes this trial very confusing for the average reader who does only reads this article. When the other half of this story for this trial and all the sayings of the witnesses and other that still need to stand trial come out I hope it is published in the same way so people can see the WHOLE story no matter what the out come is. It may also come about that the information published may end up going back into court as another part of this on going trial and I feel that it showed poor judgement for Dan to write these comments and statements of he said - she said. I feel embarrased for all parties due to this fact and hope the best will preval in court to the rightful judgement from the judge.

I believe there was good information. I think everyone should beware of these type of people who think its alright to abuse a women and get away with it. Men like this should put in jail for a couples of years. Yes the trail has just started but when you have witness that saw the marks you can't tell me he is getting a slap on the waist. If he does then what is Canada coming too. Women should know the men who like to beat there women so we know to stay away. Dan did a very good job on writing this up. Way to go Dan!!
