Careless driver fined
A man charged after police pulled over a vehicle being driven erratically on the QE II in July has been fined.
The accused was originally charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent.
He was scheduled to be tried on the charges in Didsbury provincial court on Wednesday, but pleaded guilty instead to the lesser charge of careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act.
The accused was driving a car southbound on the highway near Didsbury on July 16 when a patrolling RCMP officer noticed the vehicle swerving across lanes, court heard.
The accused admitted drinking alcohol prior to being pulled over.
The court was not told why the accused was allowed to plead to the lesser charge in exchange for the Criminal Code charges being dropped.
Judge Peter Bailey fined Brian C. Peterson a total of $1,725 and prohibited him from driving for one year.
Vehicle hit utility pole
A man who was the registered owner of a vehicle that ran into a utility pole in Olds in November 2010 has been fined.
The accused was originally charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
He was scheduled to be tried on the charges in Didsbury provincial court on Wednesday but pleaded guilty instead to the lesser charge of being the registered owner of a vehicle being driven carelessly and failing to report an accident as the registered owner.
The accused was arrested by a patrolling RCMP officer in Olds early on the morning of November 24, 2010, approximately four hours after the utility pole was struck, court heard.
In entering the pleas under the Traffic Safety Act, the accused did not admit being the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.
The court was not told why the accused was allowed to plead to the lesser charge in exchange for the Criminal Code charges being dropped.
Judge Barley fined Adam B. Pio a total of $2,300.
