Fixed dates eyed for road bans

Mountain View County will publish fixed annual dates for road bans if council adopts last week’s recommendation from its policies and priorities committee.

The dates – March 12 to June 5 – were based on five-year averages and will be changed only by exception under the new system, Michael MacLean, director of operational services, said at Wednesday’s meeting.

Setting permanent dates “is simply for administration,” MacLean said.

“That is the only advantage – so companies can provide us with a list of when their activities are going to be and we can go on to the road-use agreements,” he said.

Councillors were receptive to the proposal, since it still gave the county the flexibility to alter the dates if abnormal weather conditions warrant it.
