Council's actions on MDP consultation commendable

Having had issues with the sequence of and contradictions in the governing documents during the previous council’s tenure, we would like to thank all of our Mountain View County councillors for their efforts to actively seek out and, more importantly, include ratepayer feedback in the revision of the MDP.

This clearly had not occurred during the previous administration where high-density development was being encouraged close to towns no matter what the area residents, local area structure plans, and the affected towns had indicated.

While one cannot aspire to please everyone in the county, what matters most is the maintenance of the democratic ideal whereby voters elect individuals to represent the will of the people who placed them in that position.

Governments are meant to do just that in a democracy – not to go on to pass legislation which does not benefit the majority.

Our council actively sought public input and then heeded it. No matter what the final details of the MDP are, that is their primary role in a democracy.
