Dogpound Rodeo hosts 107th year

The 107th Dogpound rodeo drew about 750 viewers to the grounds July 18, estimates Patricia McKean, secretary for the Dogpound Agriculture Society.

“We had a larger entry than we’ve seen in the last five years,” McKean said of the 202 listed entries.

“For our rough stock events we had to add two events,” she said.

The rodeo featured bull riding, bareback, trick riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, calf roping, boys steer wrestling and team roping.

There was also wild cow milking – an event that was brought back to the rodeo last year to celebrate Mountain View County’s 50th anniversary.

“We had the kids’ catch and keep,” McKean said of a slightly different event where the kids were let into the arena to catch three pigs and three chickens.

There was also a demonstration of mounted shooting led by Janet and John Newberry. They rode into the arena and shot at targeted balloons.
