MNP’s focus on Rural Roots offensive

Re: “MNP review exonerates county” (July 20).

Dear Editor:
Even if you are not a Rural Roots supporter you have to be mad! I may not support Rural Roots but I don’t oppose them either. Their message is good – “Listen to the people!” – and I think that is their main objective. And Rural Roots accomplished a lot in getting this council to pay attention.

We asked for a county review and we got anything but! This style of review is not what Rural Roots asked for or the minister of municipal affairs and the taxpayers asked for. The county advertisements were misleading as well, leading us to believe we were paying for an in-depth review of operations, planning and administration. Meyers Norris and Penny told us what Rural Roots is doing and very little of what the county is doing. I do not care what Rural Roots is doing but I do care what the county is doing and am offended they put the light on Rural Roots for this review and not on themselves.

The county obviously does not want anybody to know what is going on behind closed doors and that is even more evident now. We asked for an in-depth review of the different departments and recommendations of improvement. Even Coun. Negropontes was disappointed in that an operations review was asked for and was never done. Wake up, taxpayers: we’re being played by a council and administration that like to keep us in the dark! The next thing we will hear is that they did their own in-house review and we will find out what they say about themselves! How does that work?

As a contractor I know there are problems in the county of Mountain View, especially in planning and operations, and feel disappointed when we were led to believe we were going to hear change and betterment and get an in-depth review of what is going on but instead got “all is good and steam ahead!” I hope that this fall a new council will not play these games and I hope they do indeed listen to the people.
