Dragons tame Kodiaks in volleyball action


DIDSBURY/CARSTAIRS – The Didsbury High (DHS) Dragons won in straight sets over Hugh Sutherland in junior varsity volleyball semifinal action on Nov. 1.

DHS was able to win all five games over their rivals.

“We played really well,” said DHS power Lacey Newsome. “I was really impressed with how our whole team played. I think we could have done better, but we did well. We had good teamwork.”

Newsome said the team has really improved since the start of the season.

“Overall we’re doing really good,” she said. “Our team has really improved. We’re playing a lot better than at the start.”

DHS finished fourth at a tournament in Olds on the Oct. 28-29 weekend. The Dragons knocked off Sylvan Lake, one of the top ranked teams going into the tournament.

“Our team is really good at passing and communication,” said Newsome. “We have good teamwork as well.”

Didsbury faced off against Olds High School in the South League final, which takes Nov. 8 in Olds.

The Didsbury senior girls volleyball team did not make the league playoffs after finishing fifth in their league standings. They will be attending the zone playoffs in Three Hills on Nov. 18-19.
